  • I do not like this product at all. Its slow with a very small cache. It took for every to setup in my computer. The only thing I like about it is the amount of space on the drive. I would not recommend this drive for any novice computer users.

  • This may be a great drive but it will not work properly in a Directv HR2X HD-DVR. It will cause all kinds of Freezing issues. I had no problems installing this unit in to an Antec MX1 enclosure and no problems connecting it to the DVR. It recognized it, formatted it and seemed to work ok. After the DVR was up and running every minute or two I had issues with the dvr locking up for 20-40 seconds constantly.
Unfortunately, I found out the EADS series works much better. So I have returned this unit and purchased the WD20EADS drive.

  • I already had a 1TB WD Caviar drive as a second drive in my Vista 64-bit system, which worked really well, and wanted to upgrade my 750GB Hitachi main drive to a 2TB Caviar. But the variable spin rate (which is this disk’s core energy-saving feature) makes it way too slow as a main drive. Even multiple disk cloning attempts maxed out at about 65MBps transfer rate, with a system crash or two thrown in for good measure. So I switched to the Hitachi 2TB and, though a bit noisier than the Caviar, it works much, much better. Disk cloning and subsequent file copying all ran at a steady 100MBps transfer rate, or better. Believe me, when you’re moving hundreds of GBs of data, a 30-50% improvement in transfer rate makes a REALLY big impression. I generally like WD products — especially the lower energy consumption and quiet of the Caviar disks — but I just couldn’t put up with the slowness.

  • I purchase this hard drive in April 2010. It died early June 2010. The write speed is extremely slow but the transfer speed is acceptable. All my hard drives are Western Digital and I have never had a problem with any of them until now. I will hold off judgment until the replacement arrives.

  • Everytime I try to move data to the HDD it crashes and takes the server with it.
Not much else to say. It can’t handle large data being copied to it.
These files where all sizes, it did not matter.
